The Arpa Protocol has changed quite a bit since it started.
When the project first appeared, I was experimenting with how music, stories, characters and technology could all fit together. There were pages about the music, stories behind the songs, ideas about where everything might lead, and quite a lot going on behind the scenes.
Over time, though, something became increasingly obvious.
The music was the important bit.
So I've decided to simplify things.
The new Arpa Protocol website is built around the music itself.
It's a place to listen to the albums and singles, discover new music as it develops, and occasionally have a look at some of the things happening behind the scenes.
The stories and ideas that helped shape the project haven't disappeared. They're still part of its history, and some of them may find their way back onto the site in one form or another.
But the music comes first.
A different way of releasing music
There's another important change happening with the project too.
From A Human Endeavour onwards, new music from The Arpa Protocol will be released directly through this website rather than through the usual streaming services.
That means the website becomes the place to hear the music, download it and, where available, buy physical releases.
The music can still be listened to online for free, and digital downloads will be available if you'd like to keep a copy. There are no subscriptions, no complicated packages and no requirement to sign up to anything just to hear the music.
If you want to listen, you can listen. If you want to own a copy, you can download it.
And if you'd like to support the project a little more, there's an optional tip when you buy.
It's a deliberately simple approach.
I'd like the music to exist somewhere that I can control, rather than relying entirely on somebody else's platform to decide how it's presented, discovered or listened to.
The website is the home of The Arpa Protocol.
What's happening next?
There are already several things underway.
The Contemplation Of Valerie Rose is available now, and A Human Endeavour is the next album to arrive.
There's also Terms Of Exchange, which is currently taking shape, along with other songs, experiments and ideas that may or may not eventually become finished releases.
That's one of the things I like about The Arpa Protocol. I don't really know exactly where it's going.
And I'm quite happy with that.
So, welcome to The Arpa Protocol.
Have a look around.
And, most importantly...
Have a listen.
