The Contemplation Of Valerie Rose
This is the debut album from The Arpa Protocol.
It's a collection of songs that ended up becoming something rather more personal than I originally expected. There isn't really one particular style running through the album, and that was never the intention. Some tracks are heavier, some are more electronic, some are more melodic, and others are deliberately a little uncomfortable.
The album is loosely connected by the character of Valerie Rose, but it's not a straightforward story from beginning to end. Instead, the songs explore different thoughts, emotions and situations around relationships, love, frustration, obsession, loneliness and the rather complicated business of being human.
There are moments of vulnerability alongside moments that are considerably less restrained. What My Destiny Holds, Set Me Free and Unrequited Love sit alongside the darker Why Must I Die?, while tracks such as FEEL!, Zero Love Day and You're Punching And You Know It! take things somewhere altogether different.
I think that's probably what I like most about the album. It doesn't always go as you expect it to, and it's also the point at which The Arpa Protocol really began to take shape as a project.
It's not an album that tries to tell you what to think. It's simply a collection of songs about people, relationships, thoughts and emotions, sometimes serious, sometimes dark, and occasionally with its tongue firmly in its cheek.
